Let's Stand in solidarity with descendents of Comfort Women

Image
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-57584343/japan-mayor-says-comfort-women-wwii-forced-prostitutes-were-necessary-to-maintain-discipline/ In the UK news: Japan's Mayor's comments of known human rights violations, the rape and forced prostitution of women (South Korean etc.) in WWII was necessary for the military to release their stress and maintain order in society. I am so disgusted with men seeing women's bodies as disposable versus sites of the divine. Just when I thought we were making steps forward in the movement to end the justification of gender violence, I find some Int'al politician takes us steps back. Sending empathy and solidarity energy to the descendents of comfort women today. In solidarity, Sis. This report is an op-ed piece, and encourages those specifically seeking more info to to make the most informed decisions from a w...

Healing offering+ Practical support to the East Coast

Image
Here is one practical way you can support those still impacted by Sandy, as NYC tries to restore its power and transportation through out much of the city. http://newyorkcares.org/ volunteer/disaster/ Healing energy to all those impacted by "Sandy," Mama earth included. Prayers for those still in recovery! Healing to climate control challenges that stir up natural disasters- lets make more environmentally wise choices today! i.e. Use less plastic. And much love+ respect to all those who stepped up in big and small ways in order that others who were suffering throughout the East Coast would receive practical support. cheers to warrior love in action and mama Oya (Ifa Goddess of the winds) whose winds of change clears away and renews. I was in a low hurricane risk zone. It was both scary watching the news about Sandy and calming to have time to not be "on." So I hold both emotions in tension and say... Thank you personally Sandy for slowing me down long e...

Sankofa: Welcoming Dr. Cornell West

Image
Sankofa: Today Dr. Cornell West was formally accepted into our faculty body at Union Theological Seminary of Columbia University. The name of the evening was Sankofa, in honor of the Adinkra symbol which reminds we must look back to learn from the past, in order to fly forward. Decades later, after retiring from Princeton, Dr. West joins our team. In his very speech he looked back honoring those who came before him. I imagined libations being poured after each name he calls. In studying post traumatic slave syndrome, I am in awe and respect by this brother, and my own courage in reaching out to him. I am honored to be one of the many students who now get to possibly study with him in connection to black liberation theology and healing. Check out this clip of a portion of his welcome speech! He is a mover and shaker internationally. Our community here has had its fair dealing with racism and systematic oppression. I pray that he is bot...

Gandhian Handloom symbol Meets Self-determination in Bk

Image
Location: Kerala India Intention: Self determination With whom: Cultural immersion trip with FSL India on the heels of Indian Independence Day! Today I would like to welcome you virtually to the Handloom Factory in Kerala, India. This is where various fabrics and traditonal Southern Indian clothes and house-ware are created by hand and on traditional machines by mostly women. The traditition of handloom has been around for many years. To the best of my knowledge and additional research, Gandhi promoted it as a form of autonomy from the British and a form of active resistence to not depending on the British goods. From the 1700's to Gandhi's passing in the 1900's, it became a symbol of patriotism and freedom. See the following website for additional general information on this act of resitence: http://www.cottontown.org/page.cfm?pageid=2786&language=eng Today, after seeing both the hard work of the workers and the semi poor working conditions I am left wit...
