Professor Charles Xavier : [ to Eric ] There's so much more to you than you know, not just pain and anger. There's good in you too, and you can harness all that. You have a power that no one can match, not even me.   Professor Charles Xavier : You know, I believe that true focus lies somewhere between rage and serenity. Would you mind if I...   [ Charles makes a gesture to request permission to read Erik's mind ]   Erik Lehnsherr : [ Erik signals approval and while Charles reads Erik minds. We see moments of Erik's childhood with his mother ] What did you just do to me?   [ Both Erik and Charles cries ]   Professor Charles Xavier : I accessed the brightest corner of your memory system. Quarterly Spring/Summer Magazine Article Section 1: Say YES to your dreams today!

Image
A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore-- And then run? Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over-- like a syrupy sweet? Maybe it just sags like a heavy load. Or does it explode? FIRE by Sacred Walker [Enjoy FREE Inspiration: An your op-ed piece in honor of channeling your fire] In April 2004, I asked myself the question in what areas of my life was I  not fulfilling my dreams? What areas did I have unexpressed emotion? W ho I was about to explode on if they jumped on my nerve one more time? What ignited my fire? The answers were slow to unfold. Still, I knew that I  was not fulfilling the fullness of my dreams and I was pissed about it .  What I thought would be a dream job as the newly appointed Associate  Executive Director of a young women lead nonprofit. This became an amazing and complicated learning experience. In many ways...

Chimamanda Adichie: The danger of a single story (Thoughts as a Visiting Artist)

Today I visited Evan Hastings thoughtful and heart warming class of young adults, as a visiting Theater artist and youth developer. In Evan Hastings class, "Ramayana Remix" we watched a TED talk on "the danger of a single story" by the prolific Nigerian Novelist Chimamanda Adichie. Evan Hastings used her questions of the danger of a single story to explore the Ramayana with his students, alongside exploring how stereotypes are formed. I had the opportunity to jump in head first into the young adults libratory theater process and in that explore my own. Having very little experience with the Ramayana, forced me to both ask and answer questions of myself that expanded my box of what I assumed Bangalore and the Ramayana to be about before I arrived. Watching this TED talk had me ask the question today, "where in my life lies a single story?" According to Adichie in the TED talk, "stories can break the dignity of a people and they can also r...
